Since spring 2024, we have been developing a community garden, Las Moreras, at 521 South Hayford St. in the Eastside Lansing neighborhood of Urbandale. Las Moreras is located on a former homesite that was demolished and was an Ingham County Land Bank property until it was purchased in 2025. Las Moreras currently has eight 10'x5' beds. As an agroecosystem, the beds are integrated into a plot populated with prairie species native to ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ, or Anishinabewaki, the land of the Anishinaabeg people, which was stolen by settler-colonizers, and where the garden humbly and respectfully resides today in an area referred to as Nkwejong (Lansing, or where two rivers meet in Anishinaabemowin).
The bulk of the food produced in this garden was used to feed our unhoused neighbors through our collaborative partners at Punks with Lunch.
Drop in for a visit, but please remember to close the gate behind you.
As of spring 2026, we have been collaborating with the Ingham County Land Bank's Garden Project to develop a food forest on the corner of Marcus and Mifflin.
